Operating indicators for July 2012

The number of passenger movements at Singapore Changi Airport increased 4.5% on-year to 4.36 million in July 2012.  Air traffic movements grew in tandem, with 27,100 landings and take-offs recorded at Changi during the month, or 4.6% more compared to a year ago.

Traffic to and from the Middle East, Southwest Pacific and the Americas remained strong and witnessed double-digit growth.  However, the growth in Southeast Asia and Northeast Asia traffic was weaker and in the low single digits.  These two regions account for about 70% of total passenger traffic at Changi.

On the cargo front, Changi handled 152,900 tonnes of shipments last month, a decrease of 4.5% on-year.

On a rolling year basis, passenger traffic and aircraft movements increased to 49.3 million (+10.3% on-year) and 318,000 (+12.0%) respectively.  Airfreight movements were stable at 1.85 million tonnes for the 12-month period.

As at 1 August 2012, 100 airlines operate at Changi Airport, connecting Singapore to more than 220 cities in 60 countries around the world.  With more than 6,200 weekly scheduled flights, an aircraft takes off or lands at Changi roughly once every 100 seconds.

Other highlights at Changi

New Service – Firefly has started a new four-weekly service connecting Singapore to Kota Bahru, a new city link for Changi Airport.  The flight leaves the state capital of Kelantan at 9.50am and arrives in Changi at 11.50am.  The return flight departs Changi at 12.30pm and arrives in Kota Bahru at 2.30pm.  This service is available on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

New Outlets – In the public area of Terminal 3, travellers and airport visitors are now spoilt for choice at Electronics Hub @ T3, the largest electronics outlet at Changi, offering a wide variety of entertainment products and household appliances.  At the Terminal 2 Departure Hall, local retailer Vignette has opened a new outlet specialising in exclusive brands of premium, lifestyle and performance eyewear. 

Over in the transit areas, renowned luxury mobile phone manufacturer Vertu is now in Terminal 1, providing tailored mobile solutions to suit the lifestyles of its discerning and distinguished customers.

Singapore Changi Airport managed 4.28 million passenger movements in March 2012, representing the highest number of passengers ever handled at Changi during the month of March. Passenger traffic for the month increased 15.3% year-on-year, in tandem with the increase in aircraft movements which grew 10.6% to 27,000. Airfreight movements decreased 1.8% to 163,000 tonnes during the month.

Passenger traffic at Changi Airport increased 11.2% to 3.77 million in February 2012. There was strong travel demand across all regions with traffic between Singapore and the Middle East growing by more than 20%. Other regions also grew by double digits. Aircraft landings and take-offs increased 13.1% to 24,900 flights, corresponding with the growth in passenger traffic.

Changi Airport opened the year on a strong note with 4.24 million passengers passing through the airport in January 2012. Apart from December 2011, this is the highest number of passenger movements Changi has handled in a month, representing an increase of 12.1% over the same month last year. Air traffic movements grew in tandem, clocking 27,600 aircraft movements, 14.9% more than a year ago.

At the same time, cargo movements recovered to 2008 pre-crisis levels. Changi continued to be highly regarded by travellers around the world with the airport receiving 23 accolades during the year.

Changi Airport handled 3.89 million passenger movements in November 2011, an increase of 7.4% over the same month last year. In the first 11 months of the year, more than 42 million passenger movements were registered, almost on par with the total number passing through Changi Airport for the whole of 2010. Aircraft movements grew in tandem by 15.9%, clocking close to 26,000 movements.

Singapore Changi Airport marked its 30th anniversary in July 2011 by handling a record 4.17 million passenger movements during the month.  This is an increase of 13.6% compared to July 2010, and surpasses the previous monthly high of 4.06 million passenger movements in December 2010.  Year-to-date, passenger movements grew 11.2% to 26.6 million.

Passenger traffic at Singapore Changi Airport grew 3.2% on-year in October 2013, with 4.41 million passengers passing through the airport. Aircraft landings and takeoffs rose by 6.7% to 29,500. In terms of airfreight movements, Changi Airport handled 157,400 tonnes of cargo, an increase of 1.8% compared to a year ago.
