Shopper from Hubei, China becomes 3rd Millionaire finalist
SINGAPORE, 13 September 2012 – Mr Chen Ziwu (陈兹武), a native of Hubei province in China, has become the third lucky shopper at Changi Airport to qualify for the ‘Be a Changi Millionaire’ 2012 Grand Draw. The 37-year-old general manager of an American payment solutions company in Beijing was on one of his routine business trips to Singapore in August, when he shopped at Changi Airport.
“I visit Changi Airport two to four times a year, as the Asia Pacific headquarters of my company is based in Singapore. I’ve previously also taken part in the ‘Be a Changi Millionaire’ Draw, but never had any luck, so I didn’t give this any thought after submitting my entry. I can’t believe I got so lucky this time!” said Mr Chen.
Before boarding his Air China flight back to Beijing on 8 August, Mr Chen shopped at Terminal 1’s Departure Transit Mall. During the spree, he bought wine, souvenirs and also cosmetics for his wife. His purchase of three bottles of wine from DFS for about S$800 has now brought him one step closer to becoming a millionaire.
Thrilled about his win, Mr Chen took his wife out for dinner to celebrate the good news. But for now, he is saving his best bottle of wine for the real celebration, if he should go on to win the grand prize of S$1 million at the Grand Draw in early 2013.
Organised by Changi Airport Group (CAG), ‘Be a Changi Millionaire’ has made two lucky shoppers at Changi Airport overnight millionaires with its annual grand prize of S$1 million since the promotion’s debut in 2010. At the Grand Draw in early 2013, Mr Chen and five other finalists will participate in a dramatic finale to determine which one of them would walk away from the stage a million dollars richer.
If he does win the million dollars, Mr Chen hopes to further his entrepreneurial dreams by using part of the windfall as capital for starting his own business. Being the astute business person that he is, he also plans to set aside a sum for prudent investments, to avoid putting all his eggs into one basket.
Mr Chen is the third Chinese national to emerge as a finalist of the 2012 run of the ‘Be a Changi Millionaire’ Draw. Prior to him, the first two finalists were from Shanghai. China is Changi Airport’s fifth largest source of passenger traffic, accounting for about 9% of total traffic at Changi. For the first six months of 2012, Chinese nationals contributed 25% to total concession sales at Changi Airport. Their top three favourite product categories by sales are liquor and tobacco, perfumes and cosmetics, and luxury goods.
During the six-month ‘Be a Changi Millionaire’ promotion which runs from 12 May to 11 November 2012, one finalist will be drawn each month for participation in the Grand Draw. Each finalist wins a cash prize of S$5,000 each[1], with return airfare to Singapore (for non-Singapore residents) plus a two-night hotel stay.
