An overseas Singaporean residing in China has become the fifth finalist in Changi Airport’s 2012 ‘Be a Changi Millionaire’ Draw. Mr Sim Why Teck was about to depart for Hong Kong on a Jetstar Asia flight when he made a detour at Gassan Watches to purchase a Tag Heuer watch worth about S$1,700 on behalf of a friend. As a result, he now has a one-in-six chance to win S$1 million in cash.

Singapore Changi Airport handled 4.0 million passenger movements in September 2012, an increase of 4.8% over the same month last year. On a rolling 12-month basis, 49.9 million travellers passed through Changi Airport, representing an increase of 9.7%.

The fourth lucky shopper to emerge as a finalist for Changi Airport’s ‘Be a Changi Millionaire’ Draw in 2012 is a Singaporean. Mr Peh Hock Peng, a business development director of an intellectual property firm, shopped at Changi Airport in August before departing for a business trip. The 45-year-old is the first Singaporean to qualify for the finals of the current ‘Be a Changi Millionaire’ Draw.

Transiting in Singapore just became more attractive with the launch of the Changi Transit Programme. From 1 October 2012 to 31 March 2014, eligible Singapore Airlines and SilkAir customers transiting at Changi Airport will be issued S$20 worth of Changi Dollar Vouchers (CDVs) each.

Mr Chen Ziwu (陈兹武), a native of Hubei province in China, has become the third lucky shopper at Changi Airport to qualify for the ‘Be a Changi Millionaire’ 2012 Grand Draw. The 37-year-old general manager of an American payment solutions company in Beijing was on one of his routine business trips to Singapore in August, when he shopped at Changi Airport.

The second finalist of Changi Airport’s ‘Be a Changi Millionaire’ 2012 campaign hails from Shanghai, China. Ms Sun Ming (孙明), 27, had completed her postgraduate studies at international graduate business school INSEAD in Singapore, and was on her journey home in late June, when she shopped at Changi Airport.

The number of passenger movements at Singapore Changi Airport increased 4.5% on-year to 4.36 million in July 2012. Air traffic movements grew in tandem, with 27,100 landings and take-offs recorded at Changi during the month, or 4.6% more compared to a year ago.

In May 2012, 4.09 million travellers passed through Singapore Changi Airport, an increase of 8.4% compared to a year ago. Flight movements at Changi increased 8.0%, corresponding with the growth in passenger movements.

Singapore Changi Airport managed 4.28 million passenger movements in March 2012, representing the highest number of passengers ever handled at Changi during the month of March. Passenger traffic for the month increased 15.3% year-on-year, in tandem with the increase in aircraft movements which grew 10.6% to 27,000. Airfreight movements decreased 1.8% to 163,000 tonnes during the month.

Passenger traffic at Changi Airport increased 11.2% to 3.77 million in February 2012. There was strong travel demand across all regions with traffic between Singapore and the Middle East growing by more than 20%. Other regions also grew by double digits. Aircraft landings and take-offs increased 13.1% to 24,900 flights, corresponding with the growth in passenger traffic.

Changi Airport opened the year on a strong note with 4.24 million passengers passing through the airport in January 2012. Apart from December 2011, this is the highest number of passenger movements Changi has handled in a month, representing an increase of 12.1% over the same month last year.
